Mrs Carmel
The clients use this apartment as a holiday escape from their busy city lives, often visiting with family and friends. With a love for entertaining, they wanted the space to feel welcoming and functional for hosting guests. The clients wanted the space to feel light, airy, and uplifting, with an emphasis on maximising the stunning ocean views. The apartment’s outdated hardware needed replacing, and the overall design was ready for a fresh, modern update. As a holiday home, the project allowed for a more playful and creative design approach, with bold selections that reflect the relaxed coastal setting.
Kitchen
As the kitchen’s original layout was U-shaped, it was a key focus to change this. By opening the kitchen up from the entry, we were able to create a longer back bench and added a fluid, oyster shell-shaped island bench inspired by the coastal surroundings. This not only improved functionality but also introduced a sculptural focal point. The existing plumbing point was cleverly concealed in the kickboard and relocated to a more practical spot on the island bench to suit the new layout. Seating was incorporated at the island to support the clients’ love of entertaining, and pop-up storage was cleverly integrated to double as a mini bar for guests.
